Who is happy with God listening in to all their thoughts?

Those who voted ‘No God’ made it easy for themselves.

However, there were an equal number of votes for ‘Yes’, God can know our thoughts!

Some of those were Christians (Followers of Jesus).

The majority weren’t. They thought that since they had God in themselves (their pantheistic world view/belief system), then the God within knew the thoughts of the God itself. I am sure they would put that more clearly…

Some thought that this was scary stuff! What if this was true? No privacy!

A vote for ‘Yes’, I think is reality. God, being God, by definition, is ‘omiscient’, all-knowing. That means he knows all our thoughts, and all our words and actions. That’s why God will be the only one who can capably and fairly judge us…

Jesus said,

For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.

Matthew 15:19 (NIV) http://www.laridian.com)

Is Buddhism about putting down all your desires? https://lifehope.blog/is-buddhism-about-putting-down-all-your-desires/ https://lifehope.blog/is-buddhism-about-putting-down-all-your-desires/#respond Tue, 05 Apr 2022 03:22:40 +0000 https://lifehope.blog/?p=1195 The post Is Buddhism about putting down all your desires? appeared first on Life Hope.

Buddha’s main thesis?

“We can eliminate suffering when we cease to desire.”

From my reading over the years, that seems to encapsulate it.

Certainly there are other major themes for all Buddhists, be they eastern or western/eclectic Buddhists.

However, does that theme seem to be a self-defeating argument – the desire to put down all one’s desires?

The eclectic western Buddhists in the market last Saturday disagreed with the original statement.

I think that many of our desires are good God-given desires. If we run with those desires in the right context, then we can be quite happy.

If my desires conflict with that, then it would be better to put them down…

That is especially if we want to please God, and do the right thing by our neighbor.

Do you reap what you sow? https://lifehope.blog/do-you-reap-what-you-sow/ https://lifehope.blog/do-you-reap-what-you-sow/#respond Mon, 04 Oct 2021 04:44:20 +0000 https://lifehope.blog/?p=246 The post Do you reap what you sow? appeared first on Life Hope.

Negative consequences follow from our negative actions?

They usually do, but not always. For instance, sickness doesn’t necessarily follow, unless we have been adopting an unhealthy lifestyle.

It is to do with the law of cause and effect. You could even say cosmic justice.

Most of us would like there to be such a principle in the universe, so that the Hitlers and the Stalins et al could be held responsible for their crimes.

However, we would rather we ourselves were not hauled up to such a court!

In this life, or the life to come, or both?

This is another level, which really makes us think!

From the Bible’s perspective, it is both. God gives us freedom of choice, since he loves us enough to not just make us robots. We can choose now how to live our lives, and what to do about him, but we won’t be able to choose the eternal consequences.

“… you may be sure that your sin will find you out.”
Numbers 32:23 (NIV) (http://www.laridian.com)

“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.”

Galatians 6:7 (NIV) (http://www.laridian.com)

Karma

Some would say that “Karma” is the same. However, it is part of Buddhism, which believes there is no God. Who or what or how would our actions, thoughts, and motives be observed, recorded, stored, and then brought to justice after death, without God? “What goes around, comes around” lacks the intelligent being…

Will there be a “Day of Judgement”? https://lifehope.blog/will-there-be-a-day-of-judgement/ https://lifehope.blog/will-there-be-a-day-of-judgement/#respond Sun, 26 Sep 2021 10:38:25 +0000 https://lifehope.blog/?p=385 The post Will there be a “Day of Judgement”? appeared first on Life Hope.

Many would scoff at such a thought

Most wouldn’t see a ‘Day of Judgement’ even as a threat.

However, Jesus often talked about such an event as real and coming. He didn’t mince his words about it either.

He gives the result for those who are on the wrong side of the judgement like this:

“Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.

Matthew 25:46 (NIV) (http://www.laridian.com)

Another part of the Bible gives this prediction:

“…people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment…”
Hebrews 9:27 (NIV) (http://www.laridian.com)

So, according to the Bible, there is no doubt about a judgement for every person ‘being on the cards’.

A reasonable question – ‘What will we be judged on?’

When I look at the Bible, the most reasonable place to look for this, it’s not supposed to be based on

-are you religious, or not?

-do you go to church or not?

-have you had an abortion, or not?

-do you give money to charity, or not, or how much?

But rather,

-are you forgiven by God for your wrongs against him and other people, or not?

Forgiven, or Not Forgiven?

Only two categories of people… Not based on smartness, degrees, colour, finances, or race.

I went for that forgiveness with an open mind when I was 14. Never have I regretted it!

What is your experience?

We all make choices about this

It probably comes down to “who do I want to please?”

Mostly, it will be ourselves. To some extent, that is reasonable, isn’t it?

However, who else?

It could be our best friend, our partner, our god, or God. It could even be the government, but that may not be at that level…

Personally, I like to try to do what Jesus said:

He answered, “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”

Luke 10:27 (NIV) (http://www.laridian.com)

Not very popular, but that is me nowadays.

We all have that question sometimes

Do you keep on remembering those times in your life? They can be milestones, or they can be dark nights of despair. Is there meaning in life?

It’s all very well for the guy in the picture – the sunrise is great, the sky is beautiful, and he may be greatly encouraged.

Photo by Pablo Heimplatz on Unsplash

However, for many, they still haven’t found a satisfying answer.

Are we looking in the best places for the answers?

It may sound “religious”, and after all, many would think that extremely uncool, but this is what Jesus said:

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

Matthew 6:33 (NIV)  (http://www.laridian.com)

The “his” is God’s.

“All these things” could include “Why am I here anyway?” That is, the purpose of your life.

To please the God of the Bible

For me, the purpose of my life has become to please the God of the Bible. I have found him to be perfect, consistent and amazing.

Over time, I have become more and more convinced of that through studying the evidence found in the Bible, by reasoning following on from that, and lastly, my own personal experience over many years.

So to seek to better please him has become more and more an ongoing project of joy for me!

It would depend on the location. Location is everything! Eternal life in hell, no. Eternal life in heaven, yes!

It would depend on whether eternal life for us was going to be positive or negative, wouldn’t it?

Location is everything!

I can’t imagine someone wanting eternal life, if for them it was going to be hell!

Then there is whether we think that reality will prove that there is, or isn’t, something after the grave.

It’s one thing to not want there to be eternal life, but another to think that if we are wrong, then we are in trouble.

I would definitely like to go to heaven. That is where the God of the Bible is. That is what Jesus has prepared for us through his sacrificing himself on the cross in Jerusalem 2,000 years ago. He became my substitute, taking the wrath of God for me against my rebellion against God. I am so grateful for that!

Then, to prove it was true, God brought Jesus back to life again, just like the prediction.

I live to please Jesus, since he has done the unthinkable for me.

What do you think?
