The “depends” won the day!

It depends on whether the issue in question is trivial or big, some people thought.

I don’t want to have full knowledge about all the dark doings on the streets of the centre of our city at night, like the police would know. Those terrors would rob me of sleep! I am happy to be ignorant of them.

However, seeking answers for the big questions of life is another thing.

Questions like “What happens after we die?” I want to find out what is reality and truth about that!

For that question, many seem to especially use the “Ignorance is bliss” idiom instead.

Let’s seek for truth and reality!

Which attitude is better for our society? https://lifehope.blog/which-attitude-is-better-for-our-society/ https://lifehope.blog/which-attitude-is-better-for-our-society/#respond Mon, 11 Apr 2022 05:56:32 +0000 https://lifehope.blog/?p=1200 The post Which attitude is better for our society? appeared first on Life Hope.

Self-absorption or self-sacrifice?

Another way of putting it – serving self only, versus serving others?

If we are self-absorbed, do we recognize it?

Self-absorption is only concerned with self, and the importance of self.

If we are self-sacrificing, do we recognize it?

Self-sacrificing probably is other person-centred, and doesn’t ‘blow its own trumpet’.

Most people chose ‘Both’. That seems realistic. A bit like in a plane. The cabin crew advise us to first put the oxygen mask on ourselves, then on our accompanying child.

Jesus was amazingly different. His actions  showed no self-absorption, but rather self-sacrificing. Ultimately, at great personal cost, he willingly gave his life for us. Three days later, showing the truth of his predictions, he came back to life again.

“… I have not come to be served, but to serve, and to give my life as a ransom for many.”

Matthew 6:33 (NIV)(http://www.laridian.com)

Is Hell self-chosen? https://lifehope.blog/is-hell-self-chosen/ https://lifehope.blog/is-hell-self-chosen/#respond Mon, 07 Mar 2022 02:12:56 +0000 https://lifehope.blog/?p=1159 The post Is Hell self-chosen? appeared first on Life Hope.

Mention of Hell…?

That word can confront!

We know that some think they are already living in it. Strangely enough, such people seem to live in the comfortable West, from my observation.

What if Hell would be just in this life? What we do has consequences, so “yes”, it would be self-chosen, according to the choices we make. Or it could be due to circumstances outside our control, such as sickness, weather or accidents.

If Hell will be a reality in the life following this brief one, then what?

What could we do now to stop that being a personal horrible reality then?

Jesus rebuked Jewish religious hypocrites in front of him.

“You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to Hell?

Matthew 23:33 (NIV)(http://www.laridian.com)

Jesus spoke more about Hell in the Bible than anyone else and in a way that shows that he understood it to be a real and specific place of punishment away from God.

Someone told me the following…

Hell – Real, Terrible, Avoidable

Avoidable? By just being “good”, or religious?

Not according to the Bible. The only way is to be forgiven by God for the way we have rejected or ignored him in our lives, as well as rejected or ignored the only way we can be forgiven and brought into happy relationship.

That way is through Jesus, taking our shame, punishment, and God’s wrath against us on our behalf. He did that, rescuing us, but we need to fully accept it and then live it.

What do you think?

Should sexual identity be regarded as the main core identity of a person? https://lifehope.blog/should-sexual-identity-be-regarded-as-the-top-core-identity-of-a-person/ https://lifehope.blog/should-sexual-identity-be-regarded-as-the-top-core-identity-of-a-person/#respond Sat, 02 Oct 2021 01:12:00 +0000 https://lifehope.blog/?p=839 The post Should sexual identity be regarded as the main core identity of a person? appeared first on Life Hope.

Surely there is more to my life and identity than just my sexuality?

We can do better than that, can’t we?

What if I didn’t live in such an affluent country? Food, drinks, freedom, individualism, and employment as given ‘entitlements’?

What if I didn’t have as much education, and was not able to ‘call the shots’ in my life so easily as I do now? Would that make a difference?

Is it because of privileges like these that make it possible to have my sexuality as the main defining identity in my life?

I’m interested in what others think, and how you got there.

Does pursuing abortion and euthanasia enhance our credibility as a civilised society? https://lifehope.blog/abortion-and-euthanasia-a-civilised-society/ https://lifehope.blog/abortion-and-euthanasia-a-civilised-society/#respond Fri, 17 Sep 2021 03:45:00 +0000 https://lifehope.blog/?p=901 The post Does pursuing abortion and euthanasia enhance our credibility as a civilised society? appeared first on Life Hope.

‘Pro-Choice or Pro-Life?

Does being pro-life mean that society is more civilised, or does being pro-choice mean that?

You can see from the blackboard result opposite that the majority of respondents in the market thought the latter.

I do find that difficult to accept

It is hard and inappropiate to call abortion anything other than the process of killing a baby in utero. It cannot be honestly sanitised to an alternative definition. Baby is the special word we have come to call the living human in the pregnant mother. We never hear a pregnant mum say her ‘foetus’ is kicking, or ‘just some tissue’ is starting to move, or has a heartbeat.

Once we know about the process of abortion, and especially if we see it on a live video, there is also no way we can think of the baby as anything other than living, and abortion as anything other than the killing of it. The reality is that the process is truly horrible to watch.

A mother’s love is normally accepted as the most exemplary of all forms of human love, isn’t it? Maybe there should be more forms of support for an expectant mother, so that she is more able to support and carry her baby to its birth?

I like that saying I heard somewhere – “Love them both.” They both have rights.

A civilized society?

What is that?

The Cambridge Dictionary  is the first that came up with a one sentence definition on a search: – “A civilized society or country has a well-developed system of government, culture, and way of life and that treats the people who live there fairly.”

“Fairly”?

Abortion can’t be fair to the baby. The baby hasn’t done any crime. It is innocent of any wrong. As well, its DNA genetic make-up is completely unique and different to its mother’s and father’s. Amazingly, its circulating blood and other organ systems are totally separate, even though they are dependent and enclosed within the body of  its dear mother. That place should be the safest of all places, and both should be protected and safe.

Assisted Suicide and Euthanasia?

When laws are enacted to allow such to happen, all looks safe and tidy. However, the risks for misuse can easily be imagined, if we are realistic.

To be fair, this needs to be discussed in another Post!

Why is there evil? Where does it come from? https://lifehope.blog/why-is-there-evil-what-is-the-origin-of-evil/ https://lifehope.blog/why-is-there-evil-what-is-the-origin-of-evil/#respond Sat, 11 Sep 2021 06:48:23 +0000 https://lifehope.blog/?p=602 The post Why is there evil? Where does it come from? appeared first on Life Hope.

]]>

Evil can be thought of as the absence of good. Another way to think of it is as the opposite of good. Some may say “bad karma”.

An evolutionary worldview

Evil would be fully expected in an evolutionary worldview, based on “survival of the fittest”, and “dog eat dog”, for each to get ahead individually. It would just depend on whether you were the ‘eater’ or the ‘eaten’.

However, based on a worldview with God as the law maker of what is truth and what is right, the definer of good and evil, then it all depends on the choices that we make. God has given us free choice, because he loves us, the people he has created.

“I love you”

In fact, we have to realise that in a world without choices, the true meaning of “I love you” would be lost. The ability to love others is void and meaningless without the power to choose. God wanted us to experience the reality of choosing to love him. Along with that gift, God knew the great risk was the possibility of evil. Our responsibility to act on that possibility rests with us, not God.

The hidden evil – “the prince of this world”

There is also Satan, one of the leading powerful angels created by God. Angels, as well as people, were given free choice by God. Satan chose to rebel against his creator, and led a rebellion with about a third of the lesser powerful angels.

God banished them out of his immediate presence, and they came to earth. Satan leads them in inciting and aiding people in rebelling with them against God. It is very interesting that Jesus called Satan, “the prince of this world”.

We can be the source of evil, along with Satan and ‘demons’.

When asked about something similar, Jesus said,

“What comes out of a person is what defiles them. [21] For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, [22] adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. [23] All these evils come from inside and defile a person.”

Mark 7:20 (NIV) (http://www.laridian.com)

We can choose to love and obey God, living to please him. Or we can choose to rebel, and live to please ourselves. God loves us enough to not force us to love him.

However, later, God will be God, and we won’t be. Now we can choose how to live, but then we won’t be able to choose the consequences. That’s when both justice and judgement will be displayed, and evil will finally be dealt with…

What do you think?

In this ‘Sexular Age’, should sexual identity trump everything else? https://lifehope.blog/should-sexual-identity-trump-everything-else/ https://lifehope.blog/should-sexual-identity-trump-everything-else/#respond Wed, 01 Sep 2021 01:41:00 +0000 https://lifehope.blog/?p=833 The post In this ‘Sexular Age’, should sexual identity trump everything else? appeared first on Life Hope.

What should trump everything else?

We all make priorities in our lives.

Instinctively, we choose what is most important and what is less, and then seek to live with as little inconsistency as possible.

Would life, or love, faithfulness, choice, God, Atheism, or coffee, or whatever, be the priority that trumps all else in the core of your being? Or would it just be your sexual identity?

What about serving others, kindness, family, safety, meaning, morality, or faithfulness?

What is your reasoning for your decision?
